Best 24″ Monitors Reviewed 2011-2012

Several modifications have made 2011’s lineup of 24 inch computer monitors far superior to that of 2010 including better LED backlight technology, slimmer designs, deeper blacks, and more versatility. In this post we’ll review 3 of our favorite 23-24 inch computer monitors of the year.

Viewsonic VX2453MH-LED 24 Inch Monitor Review 2011

One of the best new monitors of the year is the Viewsonic VX2453MH-LED which boasts gaming grade specifications alongside some great new technology features.

The VX2453MH is lit by an LED backlight which has been modified from previous versions to eliminate bleeding. Another great feature for this model is it’s ability to completely shut off individual LED lights allowing for deep and accurate black colors. Like other LED backlit monitors you’ll use about 40% less power than a standard fluorescent lit LCD.

With deeper blacks and a mega 30 million to 1 dynamic contrast ratio the VX2453MH produces a vivid picture with sharp detail that is seen in full HD 1920×1080 resolution. The 1ms response time also make movies and gaming virtually blur-free. The color reproduction is accurate but certainly not as good as what you’d get with an IPS panel monitor or other 100% sGRB reproduction monitors. If you don’t need a color critical monitor, then chances are you won’t notice the difference.

One of the reasons this monitor should be on the top of your list is because of Viewsonic’s new design which incorporates a weight reduction and slim-design. It also includes a new bookstand feature that allows you to remove the base and tilt the monitor back which adds portability and ergonomics to the overall design. If you sometimes have eye strain, then looking down at a monitor can certainly help to reduce it. We also like that it’s simple enough to pack this 9 pound monitor up and carry it with you to a meeting or your next LAN party.

Some monitors are cheapened by the lack of connectivity in the back. With the VX2453MH-LED you get a VGA and 2 HDMI connectors along with on screen display switching so you can easily switch between all of your devices. If you need a DVI connector, then simply purchase an HDMI to DVI cable.

Additional Details

Other features for the VX2453MH-LED include built-in speakers which are convenient for standard web browsing and office use, and with the stand it’s tilt adjustable (Down 5° and Up 20°). It also comes with Viewsonic’s 3 year parts and labor warranty which features an industry leading Pixel Performance Guarantee.

We like the overall picture and quality of the VX2453MH-LED and if you can get it for around $200, then it’s a good buy.

ASUS VE248H 24 Inch LED Monitor

The second most popular 24 inch LED monitor of the year is the Asus VE248H which was released at the beginning of 2011 and has been getting good grades from consumers. It’s VESA compliant so it can be easily incorporated into a multi-display or mounted on your wall.

We would grade the overall picture of the VE248H to be on the same level as the VX2453MH-LED. You won’t notice much of a difference between the 2ms and 1ms response time and the picture is detailed and accurate in full high definition with a 10 million to 1 contrast ratio.

Additional features include trace free technology, built-in speakers, HDMI, DVI-D, and D-Sub connectors as well as a 3 year parts and labor warranty.

Amazon seems to be the cheapest place for this monitor at around $195. While it’s a little less than the VX2453MH-LED it may really come down to brand preference.

New ViewSonic V3D245 24-Inches LED 3D-Ready Monitor

Another incredible monitor is the Viewsonic V3D245 which gets you into the 3D gaming and entertainment genre for less than $600 out of the gate. While this may seem somewhat expensive it’s important to remember that Viewsonic has included nVidia’s 3D vision glasses which if purchased separately can cost up to $150 by themselves.

A 2ms response time along with a 120HZ refresh rate makes this monitor incredible to play in 2D as well as 3D. Because it has a built-in 3D Vision emitter it can connect to HDMI 1.4 3D devices including Blu-Ray 3D players, and even your PlayStation 3. Like the VX2453MH-LED Viewsonic has incorporated a slimmer design with increased weight reduction, removable sand, and mounting capability.

The picture is flawless with a 20 million to 1 contrast ratio, 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution, and high-end panel.

While this is a new monitor we feel that it falls in line with other quality options from Viewsonic and should be considered if you’re looking to do 3D gaming. Another solid option would be the Acer HN274H BMIIID which for around $100 more gets you a great 27 inch 3D option.
